If I recall correctly, the origin of the xplot colorcell bug is just
that good video hardware was really expensive back when Tim et al
wrote xplot, so xplot never got debugged on anything other than a
PseudoColor (8-bit) X11 display and ended up with some accidental
dependencies on the internals of the PseudoColor "visual class". John
Bradley's "xv" used to have a similar problem but it got fixed a while
ago; I guess xplot users are just more patient or something.

In any case, Shawn's new version fixes the problem (for me, anyway, at
least on the old XFree86 3.3.1 / FreeBSD 2.2.5 machine where I tested
it with 16-bit TrueColor). Ship it!
